Oh, Places and Things.

I got my haircut last week, and I told my hairdresser about my trip to Japan coming up in March. Have I written about that here? I’m going to Japan in March to study Japanese approaches to mental health. I’ll be staying at a Zen Buddhist monastery in Kyoto. So, I told my hairdresser about it, and it turns out that he’s obsessed with Kyoto. So he had lots to tell me… and he recommended a few blogs for me to check out written by Americans living there. This interaction has finally allowed me to get excited for my trip. I’m so excited!!!

I’m also kind of poor. I have a wish list of somethings that would make my trip easier… my travel wishlist. The monastery is pretty sparse and we don’t have a ton of space to ourselves, so I have to pack light and bring essentials only. I also want to have room to bring stuff back, of course. So, if you want to help me out, I won’t argue!

I’ve been trying out some meditation and I keep falling asleep. My therapist thinks I might have a block and this is my way of avoiding something. Maybe it is, or maybe sitting meditation isn’t for me. I’ll find out for sure in March… somehow, I don’t think that the monks will be too concerned either way, being Zen and all.
