ART: Inspirado!

A common question asked of Artists is “Where do you get your ideas?” as if there is some secret idea machine where you put in a quarter and it pops out a little card that says:

Screenplay. Action-Adventure. Bags switched at airport. Hitman. College student.

And, magically, you write “8 Heads in a Duffel Bag.”

Thankfully, it doesn’t work that way.

Art is like The Force: Life creates it, makes it grow. Its surrounds us and inspires us to make our own.

To get ideas, to be inspired, you have to constantly be exposed to Art and to the other people who are making Art. A supportive group of people who are introducing you to new concepts. A museum. A library. A movie theater. Be a collector of the concepts you love.

Your inspirado.

  • Totes.Example: I can be awed by nature, but INSPIRED? Not necessarily. For me, experiencing the art of others is what inspires the artist within me. Inspiration doesn’t just happen. And ideas can’t just be given to you by a muse (or by straight-up artistic thievery). Ideas have to be earned, one way or the other. Art is hard work. It’s a bit surprising how few people actually understand that.

  • WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE’S NO SECRET IDEA MACHINE?
