You will be glad to know she has written a sequel, too!

I was also going to mention "The Knitting Circle" by Ann Hood, even though I haven't read it myself. It appears much less irritating.

I've had that book sitting on my shelf for a long time now - sounds like I should just give it to my mother to take to the library bookstore without bothering to open it up.

Don't even bother trying to finish it. I masochistically slogged through to the ending, which was just horrible and made me throw the book across the room in disgust. Just awful, and I have no idea why this book has such a following on Ravelry, or why it is being made into a movie.

Yikes; I just looked at the first few pages on Amazon, and I'm impressed that you've made it as far in as you have.

( And now Sara's comment above has me longing for a pool.)

I thought this was the book that I had read and that I must be losing my mind to have liked it but then I remembered the chick lit I read was "The Knitting Circle" which was a bitterweet, touching story that was, admittedly, quite pat. An okay quick read while sitting by the pool on a lazy Sunday!
