HEY INTERNET PEOPLE – I NEED SOME ADVICE.
Because this is work related, I’m putting it behind the cut (even though it doesn’t hide it from the internet, it’s a psychological comfort).
I Sum Up:
Old Job: Receptionist at a synagogue. Part time, low pay, great people, 5 minute commute, not very challenging.
New Job: Admin Wizard/Support Coordinator. Full time, decent pay, web-related, can be creatively challenging, busy, some really annoying people, 30 minute commute (which may lengthen in 2009 due to office move).
Old Job Redux: New job at synagogue. Full time (with tons of flexibility), decent pay, admin work only, great people, 5 minute commute, could be creatively challenging.
I’m flummoxed. The New Job is everything I thought it would be. Exactly. The Old Job Redux is totally unexpected. The call came when Tom and I were driving back from the airport. I’m still waiting to hear all the details on Old Job Redux. Meanwhile, tomorrow, I head back into the office of New Job like nothing has changed.
I feel like nothing is ever finished.
What Would You Do?

The only thing keeping me from telling you to go back to the Jews immediately is concern that you would be bored at that job.
I like old job redux and if you work for the League of Super Heroes too, it could offer tons of creative stimulation and non-boring money making opportunity.
Besides, if you go back to old job, then I can pick your brain about Purim stuff. I’m writing a curriculum for our senior high Sunday School and we’re going to study Esther. These kids need to see a biblical FEMALE superhero and unfortunately, the Christian tradition gives her short shrift. Anyway, not being Jewish, I know the Purim basics but would like some particulars because I thought when we finish the Esther unit, we’d have a Purim celebration and eat Hamman’s ears. My normal source for this sort of information is a Jewish educator, but she’s in the process of moving from Columbus OH to Woodstock NY and I hate to bug her with stuff til she gets settled.
The annoying people give me pause. I find initially annoying people get much worse over time. The commute is another thing. Although I have had many jobs that had a 1/2 hour or longer commute, I now have a five minute one and I lurve it! Still, as Annika points out, being bored is the ultimate death kiss of any job.
Sounds like the Jews have it, based on your description. Esp. if the pay is roughly equal.
The Jews are calling you!
I agree with Annika and everyone else. (I have added nothing new to this discussion. Just thought you might like to know my opinion!)
Where bettie goes, goes my army.
I would go with the synagogue, but that’s because I would always go with the synagogue. It’s a great word – I particularly like the “gogue” part.
Slightly more seriously, the smaller commute wins it for me.
Good luck with whatever you decide, Ma’am.
I would go with the old job. I usually find annoying people far more cumbersome than boredom – they drain my enthusiasm for work so much that I invariably become bored & frustrated no matter how much I was initially excited. And the commute differential definitely tips the scales for me as well.
Whichever one makes it easier for you to spend time with Tom!
The annoying people clinched it. The Old Job calls!
